Brook Trout Base Camp

Rio Corcovado and Rio Pico Areas • Argentine Patagonia

The Brook Trout Base Camp is a rare gem in the world of fly fishing. Modeled after a high-end African safari camp, and operating “off the grid,” it’s a self-sustained marvel in the midst of a wild and remote trout paradise.

Set on a quiet bend of the crystal clear Rio Corcovado, Brook Trout Base Camp is ideally situated to access some of our best brook trout waters, along with plenty of other lakes and streams with browns and rainbows.

And what better way to end a great day on the water than to return for a rustic-but-elegant “glamping” experience? For sleeping accommodations, the camp hosts up to 10 anglers in three tastefully designed small casitas and two double-occupancy safari-style wall tents, all just steps from the murmuring river. Each accommodation is equipped with two twin or one king bed, a private bath with plenty of hot water, electric lights, screened and shaded windows, and a propane heater.

Meals are prepared and served in a spacious dining tent, well-appointed with sofas and two wood stoves, featuring local ingredients and creative cuisine that is easily on par with any first-rate lodge.

Weather permitting, guests can gather around our outdoor quincho to enjoy a glass of Argentine malbec and appetizers around the fire, as the sun sets below the distant mountains.

Brook Trout Base Camp is eco-friendly, with solar power producing most of the electricity used in the casitas, tents, bathrooms, and living/dining tent, and generating more than enough hot water as well. Wood-burning stoves in the living/dining tent, and in the bathrooms adjoining each tent, ensure cozy mornings and evenings.

Comfort, solitude, beauty, and a degree of luxury — Brook Trout Base Camp has it all.

Brook Trout Base Camp is the ideal combination of rustic adventure and creature comforts — not to mention the perfect HQ for trophy brookies, rainbows, and browns.

The Fishing at Brook Trout Base Camp

Brook Trout Base Camp is strategically situated on the banks of the Rio Corcovado, providing access to some of the finest fly fishing in all of Patagonia.

Catch Trophy Brook Trout

The Camp is one of a handful of operations in the world from where clients can consistently fish for trophy brook trout on the fly and have a legitimate shot at landing a world record.

From Camp, anglers have convenient access to all waters in the area including the lakes and small streams of the Engaño and Lago Vintter watersheds, and the lakes, spring creeks, and rivers in the Rio Pico area. With an abundance of exclusive access and our knowledgeable guides you are guaranteed to have an incredible fly fishing experience.

The Engaño system holds the most pristine populations of brook trout in Patagonia. Combining the waters of the Engaño and the Rio Corcovado system, anglers can expect to encounter strong populations of brook trout, with an average weight of about 3 pounds, and the possibility of hooking a 10+ pound trophy brookie. The Rio Corcovado flows out of the magnificent Lago Vittner both of which hold resident and migratory populations of large rainbows, a thrill to catch.

The Rio Pico area is known for its spring creeks and small lakes holding large trout. There are also several smaller freestone rivers like the Rio Pico, Rio Pampa and Rio Nilson that offer fun walk wade fishing. Best of all? There are few other anglers in this region. El Encuentro brings you access to a wide variety of fishing waters great for the angler who enjoys stalking large fish, with the option to float fish the productive large-fish as well.

“Beautiful, peaceful, and amazing. Fantastic food, spectacular service, wonderful staff, and the baddest brook trout on the planet!”
