Insights from our friend Thomas Romano on his unforgettable experiences

Argentina, a fly fisherman’s dream come true. Where else can one consistently fish in the backdrop of the Andes. More importantly, what better place to be with terrific people,  than at El Encuentro Fly Fishing.

Spectacular accommodations, five star food, and great wine, all coupled with unequaled fly fishing, whether it’s dries, droppers or streamers, it’s the best.

All the above with the chance to stay in three separate lodges with a distinctly different feel and different fishing opportunities.

From Cholla, where you have the opportunity to sight fish big rainbows and browns, whether it is in its lakes, both inside and outside the National Park or its rivers.

To El Encuentro, a special lodge overlooking the majestic Rio Futaleufu, where you can again sight fish dries or swing streamers for big rainbows and browns. You can also dry fly fish for big browns inside the South end of the National Park. Another terrific option is to fish a spring creek on an Estancia they have access to for huge rainbows and brook trout, utilizing dries, droppers or streamers.

And finally, my personal favorite, for very large fish reasons, is Brook Trout camp in Rio Pico.  Here once again you will find extremely comfortable lodging couples with fantastic food and service.  But that is just the beginning, as you can fish Lago Uno thru Cinco, an Estancia spring creek as well as two very productive brook trout lakes.

From a personal standpoint, this is the ultimate vacation, from the terrific people, food and the fishing.  The guides and their helpers are the most knowledgable and enjoyable you will ever have the opportunity to fish with.

My children ask me why I go down for almost a month every year by myself, the answer is easy, I am not by myself but with family.
